Meet The Team

About:
Born and bred in the city of roses - Bloemfontein, I obtained my B-Tech radiography (therapy) degree in 2002. After working in the public and private sector as a radiation therapist, I turned to management in 2007 and have been managing radiation therapy units ever since. I love running, reading and spending time with my family.

Motto:
“Carpe Diem” (Seize the day)

Purpose:
To create a healing environment for patients, and inspire hope in all who walk through our doors.

Practice Manager

About:
I trained as a medical physicist at Steve Biko Academic Hospital and have been working at the Wits Donald Gordon Radiation Oncology Unit since February 2014.

Motto:
“I choose to take responsibility for my life”

Purpose:
I love physics and making a difference in other peoples’ lives.

Lunga April
Medical Physicist

About:
I am an experienced medical physicist with a demonstrated history of working in the medical industry. Skills include: radiation safety, clinical research and analytical skills. I have a Bsc (med) (hons) in Medical Physics, focusing in Nuclear Medicine, Radiotherapy, Diagnostic Radiology, Radiation Physics and Radiation Protection which I obtained from Medunsa.

Motto:
“Make a mark in the Universe for people to follow in your footsteps”

Purpose:
I enjoy the fact that Oncology is a very intense and active environment for a medical physicist.

Thabo Nkuna
Medical Physicist

About:
I qualified as a radiation therapist in 2009. I did my community service in 2010. I worked in the public sector for 4 years and joined the Wits Donald Gordon Radiation Unit in 2014.

Motto:
“You can’t live a positive life with a negative mind”

Purpose:
I believe that this career chose me. I lost a very close loved on to cancer. During that period I became exposed to the field of radiation therapy. I became inspired by the work they do.

Sidra Siddique
Radiation Therapist

About:
I qualified in 2004 in Radiation Therapy. I have an N.Dip in Radiography and a Bachelor of Technology degree (Therapy). I have worked both in the private and public sector. I enjoy spending time with my family.

Motto:
“Expect nothing and appreciate everything”

Purpose:
I want to make a difference in someone’s life.

Thiresha Govender
Radiation Therapist

About:
Born and bred in the sunny city of Durban. I graduated from the Durban University of Technology in 2010 and have worked in both the private and public sector. I love travelling and discovering the globe.

Motto:
“The warrior within you is greater than any circumstance around you”

Purpose:
I am blessed to be in oncology because every day I have the opportunity of doing something life-changing for someone else. I am able to care for a complete stranger and shine a light in a seemingly dark situation.

Theo Nair

About:
I initially studied Diagnostic Radiography in 2008 and then went on to study Radiation Therapy in 2013 at CUT – Free State. I worked for 3 years in the public sector and joined the Wits Donald Gordon Radiation Oncology Unit team in 2017.

Motto:
“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams”

Purpose:
I chose to work in Radiation Oncology because I am truly passionate about making a difference in the lives of oncology patients.

Zandile Mbali
Radiation Therapist

About:
I received my qualification from the University of Johannesburg. I have been working at the Wits Donald Gordon Radiation Oncology Unit since January 2016. I am in the process of completing my honours degree.

Motto:
“Every cloud has a silver lining”

Purpose:
I love helping people. I enjoy interacting with patients. I feel blessed to be in the business of helping people feel better.

Tamryn Patrick
Radiation Therapist

About:
I have worked in radiation oncology in South Africa and abroad for over 20 years.

Motto:
“THINK deeply, SPEAK gently, LOVE much, WORK hard, GIVE freely and be KIND”

Purpose:
Working in radiation oncology has been a privilege for me. I learn something new every day. The courage of the patients is an inspiration to me and I am thankful to them for the reminder to be humble and thankful for each healthy day.

Marysia Klein

About:
I studied BRad (Bachelors in Radiography) with specialization in Radiation Therapy at the University of Pretoria. I completed by community service at Hillbrow Hospital, and then spent a few years working in radiation therapy on the East Rand. I then spent 2 years working as a Radiation Therapist abroad.

Motto:
“Just be brilliant!”

Purpose:
Oncology is a space where I can interact with people in a very real way, and have a positive impact on a person’s life.

About:
I studied Radiation Therapy at the University of Johannesburg and obtained my qualification in 2015. I am a vibrant, compassionate and sweet individual. I am hardworking and perform my duties with excellence and pride. In addition I have a committed and resolute attitude towards achieving my goals.

Motto:
“Do your best in everything that you do and never fail to appreciate all that you have”

Purpose:
My mother was diagnosed with cancer when I was 16 years old. At the time I did not know anything with regards to the treatment. When she started her treatment all the medical staff were supportive and empathetic towards us. They gave us hope.

Boitumelo Mofokeng

About:
I am honest and hardworking. I think being honest and always keeping your word is very important. I try not to judge others but to accept people for who they are and to be courteous and kind. Radiotherapy requires a lot of patience and understanding and I am able to give that.

Motto:
“Hands that help are holier than lips that pray”

Purpose:
I work in Oncology because I can make a difference to the lives of people who are usually very sick.

About:
I’m a people’s person. I enjoy interacting and working with different people, and am known for being a great listener, whether I’m engaging with patients or staff. I graduated at the Durban University of Technology in 2013.

Motto:
“We rise by lifting other people!”

Purpose:
My passion for this field is based on a personal experience. My cousin was 4 years old when he was diagnosed with cancer. I will always be grateful to the radiotherapy team that helped him and our family. This made me pursue a career in radiotherapy, wanting to give back and help other people and families.

I have worked in the healthcare sector for over 20 years. I enjoy working with medical accounts. I find my work extremely stimulating. I am very target driven and motivated to do my best.

I find my work extremely fulfilling. In the oncology sector I get to interact with patients. I have learnt to appreciate life more.
